An established Dirty South legend by the late ‘00s, Pastor Troy is the master of hip-hop contradiction; like Killah Priest (and Jim Jones to an extent), Troy mixes biblical images with unrepentant tales of gangland glory. 2009’s READY FOR WAR is no exception. The violence of the casually robbing-and-murdering-loving “Don’t Kill ‘Em” is balanced by the reflective “Change.” Meanwhile, “Georgia Swag” is just plain hook-happy.
