Dernier album sur lequel Vincent Melouney fut invité à tenir la guitare, Odessa n’évoluait déjà plus dans le rock psychédélique des débuts, mais n’avait pas encore pris la teinte pop/soul qui caractériserait les Bee Gees quelques années plus tard.
Accouché dans la douleur (les tensions entre les frères Gibb et Melouney étaient palpables tout au long de l’enregistrement et Robin Gibb lui-même présentait des velléités de carrière solo), le double Odessa s’en tire cependant très honorablement comme album précurseur de la brit-pop très marqué dans la période « fin 1960-début 70 ». On y ressent bien moins l’influence des Beatles que dans Bee Gees First ou « Spicks and Specks », mais le produit est incontestablement britannique.
