Vite remise de son éviction de Nightwish, Tarja livre avec My Winter Strorm un album à son image. A la fois doux et dur, d'un romantisme gothique souligné par des stridences de guitare, parfois pompeux mais jamais lourd.

Tarja c'est une voix de soprano sublime, naguère parfaitement adaptée au metal symphonique, désormais consacrée à un registre plus pop rock, mais toujours enluminée d'orchestrations classiques. My Winter Storm c'est la rencontre entre Enya et Doro, avec Sarah Brightman dans les choeurs.

Album à la production irréprochable, aux compositions variées, d'une vraie originalité, My Winter Storm mérite amplement son accueil plus que positif. Alternant intelligemment ballades au fort climat onirique ( « I Walk Alone ») et titres bardés de métal (« Lost Northern Star »), My Winter Storm ne souffre que d'une durée un peu exagérée qui vient délayer la force du propos.

Tarja explore une voie qui sans être entièrement nouvelle, n'en est pas moins enthousiasmante.
