En 1973, un an seulement après la parution du premier Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry sortait son premier album solo. Une schizophrénie qui permettait au dandy british d’assouvir en solitaire sa passion pour l’interprétation pure et dure. Sur These Foolish Things (1973), le leader de Roxy reprend notamment Dylan, les Beatles, les Stones, les Beach Boys, les Four Tops et Elvis, tandis que sur Another Time, Another Place (1974), il revisite Dylan encore, mais aussi Sam Cooke, Ike Turner, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Joe South sans oublier quelques pépites de girl groups 60's. Jusqu’ici inédit, ce live de décembre 1974 au Royal Albert Hall de Londres est essentiellement nourri par ces deux disques solos. L’ironie, le décalage et l’exubérance de la philosophie glam explosent à chaque seconde d’un concert grandiose et grandiloquent auquel participent trois membres de Roxy Music : le guitariste Phil Manzanera (dément !), le batteur Paul Thompson et le bassiste John Porter. Smoking, pattes d’eph et cheveux longs, Bryan Ferry livre une performance décadente à souhait, maquillant et secouant la tradition qui se laisse ébranler avec plaisir. J.J. Cale, le blues pépouze

Plus de cinq ans après sa mort, impossible de ne pas se ressourcer régulièrement auprès de la musique de J.J. Cale. Avec son alliage atypique de blues, folk, country et jazz, celui que vénérait Clapton et qui passa une partie de sa vie dans un mobil-home reste encore aujourd’hui l’un des ermites les plus influents du rock.

Fleetwood Mac, la période blues

Il y a deux Fleetwood Mac, celui des années 1960 aux couleurs blues porté par l’un des plus grands guitaristes de sa génération, Peter Green, et l’autre, un groupe de pop-rock qui deviendra l’une des formations les plus acclamées de son époque. Leur album de 1977, “Rumours”, reste, quarante ans après, l’une des dix meilleures ventes de tous les temps. Mais la première période du groupe, moins connue, fut tout aussi captivante.

Nick Cave, mauvaise graine de star

Nick Cave et ses Bad Seeds restent l’une des aventures les plus prolifiques de l’ère post punk. Dès la fin des années 80, le magnétisme caverneux du chanteur australien atteignait un certain paroxysme, entre reprises furibardes, ballades au piano et rock’n’roll en sueur. Au fil des ans, le Cave s’est fait de plus en plus crooner, entre un Frank Sinatra punk et un Johnny Cash austère...
