Laura Izibor n'est pas une chanteuse néo-soul passe-partout, et pour cause : elle a grandi à Dublin, en Irlande. Des touches de splendeur folk, gospel et rock caractérisent son premier album de 2009, Let The Truth Be Told. Le single d'ouverture, "Shine", évoque le début des années 70, enveloppant des cuivres à la Tower of Power, des fioritures de piano enjoué et une mélodie pop de l'époque Carole King autour d'une base soul moderne et d'une accroche avec des chœurs impressionnants. Ses paroles reprennent, certes, les thèmes standard de l'amour, la perte, l'espoir et la fidélité, mais elle sait tourner des phrases ingénieuses au bon moment, et ce charmant éclat d'ouverture du disque passe par toute la gamme, de la funk remuante à la variété radio.
