Considéré depuis longtemps comme le rédempteur du hip-hop de la côte Ouest, The Game détourne avec ironie les attentes liées à LAX. Malgré la référence explicite du titre à l’aéroport de Los Angeles, terre d’origine du rappeur, ce disque-là a des allures d’éternel vagabond. Savamment produits, ses 19 morceaux puisent dans des influences inter-côtières et invitent des MC issus de Chicago (Common), de New York (Raekwon), de Louisiane (Lil Wayne) et bien sûr, de la région sud-centre (Ice Cube). Ce vaste amalgame trouve une cohésion grâce à l’indéniable autorité au micro de The Game, dont l’agressivité enrouée aborde des sujets touchant à la fois à la conscience et à la fanfaronnade. LAX possède une vibe bien particulière qui suit librement son cours, épaulée par un funk futuriste minimaliste.
