Les quatre albums réunis ici ont été publiés par le propre label du groupe, Grateful Dead Records : Wake of the Flood (1973), From the Mars Hotel (1974), Blues for Allah (1975) et la compilation live tant décriée, Steal Your Face (1976). Les trois albums studio, même s’ils donnent à entendre des chansons vraiment différentes de ce qu’elles sont devenues par la suite, sont réussis. C’est l’album « live » qui profite le plus de la remastérisation, ce qu’il méritait bien.
