Pour le biopic qu’il a consacré à Florence Foster Jenkins, le cinéaste britannique Stephen Frears a fait appel à Alexandre Desplat, compositeur on ne peut plus doué capable de s’adapter à toutes les thématiques, toutes les époques, tous les lieux, toutes les ambiances. Sauf que pour la première fois de sa carrière, le musicien a dû créer à partir d’un matériau on ne peut plus atypique : le chant faux de cette cantatrice ovni qu’était Florence Foster Jenkins. La force de cette B.O. est donc d’avoir réussi à faire chanter très faux Meryl Streep (qui dans la vraie vie chante très juste) et d’apposer sa partition au sommet de ce gâteau. A côté de ces passages hilarants, Desplat a concocté de superbes petits thèmes estampillés « années 30 » dont il a le secret et qui rendent l’ensemble totalement délicieux. © CM/Qobuz
