Le premier album des Ben's Brother, Beta Male Fairytales (2007), propose les compositions signées par son leader et chanteur à la voix cassée, Jamie Hartman.
La raucité de sa voix n'est surtout qu'un effet de style, comme le démontre sa capacité à employer un timbre plus soyeux sur l'introduction intimiste du titre « Carry On », au contraire de « Time » si pitoyablement cliché. Dans la lignée des Stereophonics ou de Travis, Jamie Hartman se reconnaît donc du style britpop, jonglant entre chansons rock, aux sonorités brouillées par le trop plein de guitares, chœurs, claviers... (« Live », « Stuttering (Kiss Me Again) », « God By Another Name »), et ballades nostalgiques (« Let Me Out », « I Am Who I Am », « Bad Dream », « Find Me An Angel »), parmi lesquelles se distingue « Harmonica in F (Interlude) » et son refrain irlandais à l'harmonica.
Si les vieilles recettes de grand-mères font les meilleurs gâteaux, celles utilisées par les Ben's Brother ont plutôt le goût des plats préparés.
