Depending on your point of view, Mickey Gilley either aged well as his career went on, or he didn't, since he released increasingly smoother material the further he was into it, and he didn't start out that rough in the first place. He's a perfect example of the string-laden, commercial countrypolitan sound, and the only thing that saves him from being just purely bland is his honky tonk heart. This brief set has songs like "Room Full of Roses" and "I Overlooked an Orchid" that are just sappy enough to work, but on the whole, Gilley comes close to being a dinner buffet act who doesn't really want to disturb anyone's meal. Worse, these aren't the original versions of these songs, but newer re-recordings, making this a rather dubious purchase.
