Piotr Wojtasik
Born in Wroclaw, Poland on June 10, 1964, Piotr Wojtasik is an award-winning jazz trumpeter, flugelhorn player, composer, and bandleader. He studied at the Music Academy in Katowice from 1978 to 1983 before joining jazz outfit New Presentation. He made his debut with the band at the Jazz Jamboree, a Polish jazz festival, and appeared on their 1988 album. After several years with New Presentation, Piotr Wojtasik released his self-titled debut solo album in 1993. His career as a bandleader proved to be very successful and included albums such as Lonely Town (1995), Hope (2001), Colors (2005), Circle (2007), Old Land (2013) and To Whom It May Concern (2018). While he worked with many of Poland’s top jazz musicians, he also performed or recorded with a variety of international jazz greats including David Liebmann, Buster Williams, Ben Riley, Reggie Workman, Vincent Herring Gary Bartz, Billy Harper, Wayne Dockery and Wes McCraven. In 2008, he won two Fryderyk Awards (the Polish version of the Grammys) for his album Circles: Best Jazz Artist Of The Year and Best Jazz Album Of The Year. He has done many international tours as well as spending time on the road in his home country Piotr Wojtasik is active as a tutor, being an associate professor at the Institute of Jazz at the Academy of Music in Katowice.
