Passion Fruit
Named after the tropical fruit that has a refreshing aroma and intense flavor, the German/Netherlands trio Passion Fruit burst into the local scene with the Top Ten dance-pop "The Rigga Ding Dong Song," in June 1999. "Sun Fun Baby" and "Bongo One" followed in 2000 and 2001 respectively.
On November 24, 2001, the Crossair flight LX 3597 from Berlin to Zurich crashed into woodlands four miles short of the runway, near the town of Bassersdorf. Passion Fruit and La Bouche's vocalist Melanie Thornton were among the passengers on that plane. Maria Serrano-Serrano and Nathaly van het Ende passed away while Debby St. Marteen suffered serious injuries. In December 2001, Passion Fruit's management decided to donate all the proceeds from their single "I'm Dreaming Of...A Winter Wonderland" to the victims and survivors of the tragedy.
