Motel ***

The Mexican rock band Motel was formed in Mexico City in 2003 by musicians Guillermo "Billy" Méndez and Rodrigo Dávila Chapoy. They started off playing in bars as a duo and later recruited bassist Rubén Puente and drummer Michel DeQuevedo, who was eventually replaced by José Damián. Produced by Moderatto's Jay de la Cueva, their self-titled studio debut appeared in 2006 and yielded the single "Dime Ven," which reached Number 2 on the Mexican Hot 100 chart. This success was followed by the release of 17 (2007) and Multicolor (2010), their last full-band effort before the departure of Rubén Puente and José Damián in 2011. The following year, the duo joined Ha*Ash, Paty Cantú, and Playa Limbo's María León on the track "Adelante," especially recorded for the 2012 Olympics in London. In 2013, Motel returned with an electro-pop-tinged fourth album titled Prisma, featuring guest appearances by Belinda, Kinky's Gil Cerezo, and Orpheo McCord. Subsequently, the group released a handful of scattered singles such as "A la Mala" (2015), "Ya No Quiero Mentirte" (2016), "Tú y Yo" (2019), and dropped the live album Origen (En Vivo) in 2022. A few months later, they returned with the radio hit single "Morir Aquí."
