Hermitage Piano Trio

The U.S.-based Hermitage Piano Trio quickly found places on major chamber music series and at festivals around the U.S. and has toured internationally. The group has released several albums on the Reference Recordings label. The Hermitage Trio was founded in 2011. The three members were all born in Russia, and the group took its name from the Hermitage State Museum in St. Petersburg. All three came to the U.S. for musical studies, however, and all are now U.S. citizens. Violinist Misha Keylin was a student at the Juilliard School in New York; pianist Ilya Kazantsev attended the Manhattan School of Music, and cellist Sergey Antonov studied at the Longy School of Music in Boston. All three players had independent careers when they joined forces, and the new group quickly made an impact. In 2012, the Hermitage Piano Trio performed at the Philips Collection in Washington, D.C., and was praised by Washington Post critic Stephen Brookes. The Hermitage Piano Trio specializes in mainstream 19th century trio repertory and also in American works by such composers as Amy Beach and Horatio Parker. The group made appearances at important chamber music series and festivals in such cities as New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and Miami, and then branched out abroad, appearing in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Winnipeg (Canada), and finally organizing tours in Canada, Europe, and East Asia. The trio's appearances in the 2023-2024 season were slated to include those at the Chicago Chamber Music Society, the Friends of Chamber Music Miami, and Newport Classical. The Hermitage Piano Trio was signed to the Reference Recordings label and released its debut album, Rachmaninoff, in 2020. The group returned in 2023 with Spanish Impressions, featuring early 20th century Spanish music by Enrique Arbós, Joaquín Turina, Gaspar Cassadó, and Mariano Perelló. The trio's recordings have earned three Grammy award nominations.
