Danielle Darrieux

An unforgettable actress in such classic films as Mayerling (1936), Abus de confiance (1938), Premier rendez-vous (1941), La Ronde (1950), La Vérité sur Bébé Donge (1952) and Madame de ... (1953), Danielle Darrieux also performed songs from some of his films. Born in Bordeaux on May 1, 1917, the trained pianist and cellist put her clear voice to good use in songs such as "La Crise est finie" (1934), "Un mauvais garçon", "Une charade " (1939) and "Premier rendez-vous", her biggest hit of 1941, from the film of the same name by her husband Henri Decoin. In 1967, after Jacques Demy's Les Demoiselles de Rochefort , "D. D.", as she was nicknamed, did her first singing tour between two stage roles. In 2002, director François Ozon brought the actress and singer out of retirement for the film Huit femmes, in which she sang "Il n'y a pas d'amour heureux". The same year, she sang "À Paris dans chaque faubourg" on Patrick Bruel's album Entre Deux. The thirty-six-track double CD Intégrale 1931-1951, released in 2003 by Frémeaux & Associés, documents this parallel career. Having played 110 film roles over eight decades, Danielle Darrieux died at the age of one hundred on October 17, 2017.
