He Jie is a Chinese singer who rose to prominence in 2005 after finishing in fourth place at the popular singing contest, Super Girl. Born in Guiyang, Guizhou, on March 25, 1986, she began performing at a very early age and won her first singing competition in 1999. After graduating from the Sichuan Music Conservatory, He Jie took part in the Chinese singing contest Super Girl, finishing up fourth and landing a deal with EE Media. Luminary, her studio debut, was released in 2006. Driven by a Chinese version of Sabrina Salerno's 1980 hit single "Boys Boys Boys," her sophomore effort Obviously I'm Not an Angel saw the light via Avex Taiwan the following year. He Jie continued growing as a performer on subsequent releases such as I Wanna Go Back (2010) and Brave to Love (2012) before retreating from the spotlight to focus on raising her children. Following her divorce from actor He Zeming, she returned in 2018 with the album Goodbye He Jie, a collection of introspective songs inspired by her then-recent breakup. In 2022, He Jie signed with Sony Music China and issued her sixth studio album, Roots.
