L’art de la transcription fut l’une des bases de la transmission musicale internationale de l’époque baroque. Bach transcrivait Vivaldi, Johann Gottfried Walther (un cousin de JSB) transcrivait Albinoni ou Torelli, l’éditeur John Walsh transcrivait Haendel… Une bonne partie des transcriptions ainsi proposées par l’organiste japonaise Kei Koito procède de l’engouement pour la chose italienne du début du XVIIIe siècle, les tout nouveaux concertos faisant alors rage. C’est pour l’orgue solo que toutes ces pièces sont « réduites », si l’on peut parler de réduction dans le cas d’un instrument tel que l’orgue. Kei Koito a choisi l’orgue de 1702 de l’église Aa à Groningue aux Pays-Bas, une merveille de palette et de contrastes sonore permettant, justement, de restituer – ou plutôt de transcender – les divers plans musicaux inhérents au genre du concerto. On notera que c’est Kei Koito elle-même qui a établi une « Suite en sol » de Haendel à partir d’œuvres isolées, souvent des mouvements uniques, pour clavier. Ainsi que l’aurait fait Haendel lui-même, s’il avait pu en tirer quelque intérêt ! L’intérêt, pour nous, est d’entendre ces petits bijoux dans une sonorité riche donnant une idée bien précise de ce qui pouvait chatouiller les oreilles des Européens du Nord en 1702. © SM/Qobuz
