Normalement, la cantate Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott, BWV 80 de Bach comporte huit numéros, pas un de plus, comment cet album peut-il donc comporter vingt pistes de ladite cantate ? Très simple : Christoph Spering et son Chorus Musicus de Cologne nous en offrent ici toutes les versions et variantes. D’abord, le cinquième numéro transcrit en latin et augmenté de quelques ajouts personnels par Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. Ensuite, deux numéros dans une version de 1725 (dite BWV 80b) que Bach a distillée à partir d’une rédaction initiale de 1715, perdue, qui porte le numéro BWV 80a. Puis la version avec timbales et trompettes de la cantate entière, un arrangement ici aussi dû au à Wilhelm Friedemann. Puis la cantate intégrale de Johann Sebastian Bach dans la rédaction originale de 1730, la vraie BWV 80. On finit avec une adaptation latine d’un autre mouvement, toujours due au petit Willy Freddy. © SM/Qobuz
