La Dinastia de Tuzantla, Mich.
Proudly representing their beloved Tierra Caliente, the charting La Dinastia de Tuzantla, Michoacan are one of the most acclaimed ranchero bands in Mexico. Since 1987, they have offered an undiluted approach to the music of their region with longevity and a large discography. Known as "La Reina del Sentimiento Ranchero" ("the Kings of Sentimental Ranchero"), they hail from the city of Tuzantla in Michoacan, Mexico. La Dinastia are a Toledo family-run group (hence the word "dynasty in their name); they are one of few professional acts to emerge from this region. La Dinastia's modus operandi is based on the great sense of responsibility they felt to present the traditional music of Tierra Caliente not only in their region, but to a greater Mexican listening audience. They have toured throughout Mexico and across Latin America, as well as in the Southwestern United States. Since 2005, though it took nearly 20 years to get there, they've placed no less than a dozen albums on the Mexican Regional Albums chart and ten at Top Latin Albums and numerous singles as well. These include 2006's acclaimed Interpreta a José Alfredo Jiménez, and the album widely considered their classic, 2008's Que Chulada! Their live and themed recordings -- including Especialmente Para Ti... Romanticos -- have placed alongside their proper studio dates. The Toledo family formed the band in 1987, envisioning a sound that adhered to tradition but expanded on it with a horn section as well as folk instruments. To assemble the necessary equipment, they turned to local promoter Arturo García, who became their benefactor, purchasing new instruments and microphones in exchange for the group's future performances.
La Dinastia rehearsed for the better part of five years. Promoted by Garcia, they began playing local shows and established an exciting and authoritative stage presence and energy that proved infectious to crowds. They were soon playing to ever larger audiences at public events and festivals throughout the region. La Dinastia de Tuzantla, Michoacan recorded a handful of self-issued cassettes in 1995 and 1996 -- later released by Ara -- and continued to issue new and live material throughout the rest of the decade.
The group signed with Universal in 2001. Their label debut, Guiados por el Cielo, appeared in 2003 and sold respectably, even as their tours sold out. As the band's discography grew, so did its recognition and industry clout. Their 2005 production, En Vivo, landed the number seven spot on Billboard's Regional Mexican charts and number 17 in the much broader Top Latin Albums category; it eventually peaked at number seven on the Hot Latin Albums chart. It was followed that same year by the only slightly less popular Especialmente Para Ti... Romantica. Their 2007 production, Es Grande, featured the hit single "Te Quiero Para Mi," which dominated popular radio throughout Mexico and the American Southwest for months after its release. Later that year, Que Chulada! appeared. The band toured hard behind both records, playing Mexico and the Southwestern United States. While 2009's Somos Mucha... Dinastia! didn't chart, its singles received excellent radio attention and their videos racked up hundreds of thousands of views. Their compilations of early material and live recordings from tours sold as well as their studio efforts. La Dinastia moved first to Universal's Disa imprint for 2011's Te Seguiré, and to its Toledo label for 2013's joyous Dos Lágrimas y un Tequila. Two hits collections, 2014's Historia... Mis Éxitos and 2015's 20 Exitos Calentanos (the latter on the Discos America label) placed well on several Latin streaming charts. 2016's De Mi Corazon Para Tu Corazon, ran up the traditional Mexican Music streaming charts, landing at number three. La Dinastia de Tuzantla's tours remained sold-out affairs even as the Latin music industry changed around them. Late in the year, the act moved labels once again, this time to Morena. Las Canciones de Mis Viejos was released in early 2017, followed by a joint recording with Beto y Sus Canarios on Calentanas, Vol. 3. Two years later, the group issued La Reyna de Tierra Caliente for the Morena label.
