Nathalia Milstein
Pianist Nathalia Milstein is a soloist and chamber musician who has appeared at major concert halls and festivals across Europe and in North America. She was signed to the Mirare label and has released several solo recital albums.
Milstein was born in 1995 in Lyon, France, into a family of Russian emigré musicians. Her grandfather, Iakov Milstein, was a pedagogue at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, and she received her first lessons at age four from her father, pianist Serguei Milstein. Violinist Maria Milstein is her sister, and the sisters have performed as a duo. Even before beginning her formal schooling, Nathalia won the Concours Flame youth competition in 2008 and repeating the feat in 2009 and 2010. In 2009, she enrolled at the Conservatoire de musique de Genève. Milstein went on to the Haute école de musique in Geneva, studying with Nelson Goerner and earning bachelor's and master's degrees there. She followed Goerner to the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin, and she has also taken master classes with Elena Ashkenazy, Krzysztof Jablonski, and Jean-Marc Luisada, among others.
A first prize at the Dublin International Piano Competition in 2015 -- she was the first woman to win -- launched Milstein's performing career. The 2015-2016 season saw her give recitals at Wigmore Hall in London and Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York and accompany the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. She has been a popular draw at festivals, including La Roque d'Anthéron, the Lille Piano Festival, and the West Cork Chamber Music Festival. Milstein was signed to the Mirare label and released a pair of duo albums with Maria Milstein: La Sonate de Vinteuil and Ravel Voyageur. In 2021, Nathalia issued her solo debut on Mirare, Visions Fugitives, featuring music by Prokofiev, Liszt, and Valery Arzoumanov, among others.
