Charmaine Fong

Born Wu Jiaxin on May 1, 1980, in Hong Kong, the Cantopop singer, songwriter, and actress is better known by her stage name Charmaine Fong. Her entertainment career began in 1999 when she auditioned to be a VJ for Hong Kong Cable TV. She met music producer Zeng Songqin and then began to pursue a music career instead. Her first album was the Mandarin-language album Do You Know (2002), which she also recorded in Cantonese. Her sophomore album, Dream Catcher (2003), was also recorded in Mandarin and Cantonese, but a label merger meant that she lost her record contract after the release of the second album. Charmaine Fong spent the next few years writing songs for others but returned with the album Welcome in 2007. Focusing on recording Cantopop albums, her popularity grew as she continued to record a series of albums – including Unlock Me (2009), the My Spiritual Life EP (2017), and Lost n Found (2021) – and compose songs for other artists. She also began a successful acting career in 2007, appearing in films, television adverts, and TV series. Charmaine Fong has received many honors throughout her career including awards from Radio Television Hong Kong, Hong Kong Commercial Radio, the Chinese Media Festival, the YAHOO Asia BUZZ Awards, and many others. A prolific artist, Charmaine Fong followed up her 2021 album Lost n Found with the single “HW1,” which was released in April 2022.
