Cristina Quesada

Hailing from Madrid but well-versed in a number of different languages, soft-spoken indie pop singer Cristina Quesada harks back to the gentle world of vintage Europop and disco. A staple of the Elefant Records roster, she has released a trio of solo albums including two -- 2019's Think I Heard a Rumour and 2022's Dentro Al Tuo Sogno -- in collaboration with U.K. producer Joe Moore. Taking up the guitar at age 13, she learned to play her favorite songs, working in theater troupes and eventually joining the cast of a children's television program in the Canary Islands. A couple of years later she discovered the ukulele, which became her primary instrument and led to the recording of her first 7" single for Spanish indie pop label Elefant Records in 2013. Working with a number of collaborators in and out of the Elefant stable (including label owner Luis Elefant and members of BAND À PART), Quesada began recording her debut LP in 2014. A mix of originals and unusual covers sung in Spanish, English, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, and even Japanese, You Are the One was released in early 2015. For her 2019 follow-up, Quesada began a new collaboration, this time with Joe Moore of the Oxford-based band the Yearning. With Moore producing, arranging, and writing nearly all of the material, Think I Heard a Rumour leaned more heavily into synth pop and disco. The union of Quesada and Moore worked so well that the duo continued their arrangement on 2022's Dentro Al Tuo Sogno. Forging even deeper into European electro-pop, the album drew inspiration particularly from Italian masters like Giorgio Moroder and Savage.
