Giulio Regondi

This Italian guitar prodigy was also a concertina and melophone player. He was raised in Lyons but as a child performed the guitar in Paris and London gaining high notoriety. While in London, where his family settled, he met other guitar virtuosos and music publishers. He was prompted to learn the eight string guitar by the Polish expert Sokolowski which Regondi played on a concert tour to Vienna, Prague and Leipzig between 1840 and 1841. His compositions included "Reverie nocturne," opus 19, and "Fete villageoise," opus 20 for the guitar and "Introduction and Variations on an Austrian Air," opus 1 for the concertina and piano.
