António Miguel

San Antonio-born Miguel Antonio has found his musical voice through the flamenco guitar playing of Spain and South America. In addition to performing throughout the world as a soloist, Antonio has toured and accompanied with Jose Greco and His Ballet Flamenco and Maria Benitez's Estampa Flamenca. The son of a concert pianist, Antonio studied music at the age of four. Four years later, he began studying classical guitar under Pepe Romero. In his teens, he enhanced what he had learned by studying with classical guitar masters Andres Segovia, Juan Serrano, and Paco Pena. Although he attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1978, Antonio's real education came when he traveled to Spain to study flamenco under Mario Escudero and Sabricas. Upon his return to the U.S., Antonio began working with Jose Greco's flamenco dance troupe, touring the U.S. and South America between 1983 and 1987. In 1988, Antonio performed a series of solo guitar recitals in Japan, Spain, and England and toured with Maria Benitez's Estampa Flamenca. In 1991 and 1992, Antonio performed and taught in Mexico City at Universidad Oedagogias and Escuela Nacional De Mesia. He returned to the United States to perform in the Broadway show, Man of La Mancha. Antonio teaches flamenco guitar in Dallas.
