Gaetano Nasillo, ein unermüdlicher Entdecker von Gebieten abseits der ausgetretenen Pfade, hat sich bereits mit der venezianischen Musik beschäftigt. Dabei entstand ein unvergessliches Album, das dem Komponisten und "musico di violoncello" Antonio Caldara (A369) gewidmet war. Dieses neue Album führt uns zurück nach Venedig, um dort Cellovirtuosen und Sonaten zwischen Vivaldi und Tartini zu entdecken.
"Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts wurde das Bassmitglied der Geigenfamilie zu dem Instrument weiterentwickelt, das wir als Violoncello kennen. Venedig und seine Republik wurden innerhalb weniger Jahrzehnte zu einem wichtigen Kompositionszentrum für das neue Instrument, dessen Popularität stetig zunahm und in den 1730er und -40er Jahren einen Höhepunkt erreichte. Für diese Sonaten-Anthologie für das Cello hat Gaetano Nasillo acht Werke von acht verschiedenen Komponisten mit Bezug zur Serenissima ausgewählt. Ein Komponist, Antonio Vivaldi, ist sehr bekannt; zwei, Benedetto Marcello und Giovanni Benedetto Platti, sind ziemlich bekannt; die restlichen fünf - Girolamo Bassani, Diogenio Bigaglia, Antonio Martinelli, Antonio Vandini und Michele Stratico - sind kaum bekannt, und diese Erstaufführung ihrer Sonaten zeigt die hohe Qualität und den schieren Genuss an ihrer Musik."
