Worriers

The solo project of Brooklyn-based singer, songwriter, and guitarist Lauren Denitzio, Worriers began releasing fiery, liberated punk music in the early 2010s. A series of indie singles and EPs paved the way for 2015's Laura Jane Grace-produced Imaginary Life LP. Follow-up albums like 2017's Survival Pop and 2020's You or Someone You Know explored themes of gender liberation, inequality, and the politics of daily life in times of unrest. Previously operating as bandleader to a rotating group of collaborators, Denitzio refashioned Worriers solely as a solo endeavor for 2023's more pop-driven Warm Blanket. Also a visual artist and author, Denitzio initially came up with the New Jersey punk band the Measure (SA) before forming Worriers in 2011. Based in Brooklyn, they cycled through a frequently changing membership on early releases like 2013's Sinead O'Rebellion and Cruel Optimist, the latter marking their first release for Don Giovanni Records. For their debut full-length album, 2015's Imaginary Life, Denitzio hired Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! to produce. A follow-up album, Survival Pop, appeared two years later, this time on the SideOneDummy imprint (later re-released by 6131 Records) as Denitzio continued to rely on various stalwart collaborators to furnish both the studio and live version of Worriers. Among the most frequent contributors were Mikey Erg, Lou Hanman, John McLean, Rachel Rubino, and Audrey Zee Whitesides. Following 2020's John Agnello-produced album You or Someone You Know, Denitzio took a breath and reevaluated what they wanted Worriers to be. For years, they had been trying to manage the project as a band, albeit one with a somewhat loose membership. In the summer of 2022, they came to the realization that Worriers was truly their solo project and began to treat it as such. Recording and mixing at home, Denitzio embraced their new independence and experimented freely. The resulting album, 2023's Warm Blanket, was their most personal and sonically diverse, with elements of pop, folk, punk, and indie rock.
