Tube

Formed in 1985 in Okinawa, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, Tube is a pop rock band formed while the members were still in high school. Founded by Maeda Nobuteru (vocals), Haruhata Michiya (guitar and keyboards), Kakuno Hideyuki (bass), and Matsumoto Ryouji (drums). Known for their upbeat music focuses on the joys of Summer, Tube released their debut album, Heart of Summer, under the group name The Tube, followed six months later by the album Off Shore Dreamin’ (1985). In 1986, they shortened their name to Tube and released the album The Season in the Sun, which became their biggest seller yet. While the band continued to release hit albums, vocalist Maeda Nobuteru and guitarist Haruhata Michiya began exploring solo avenues while continuing to remain dedicated to the band. With their popularity, the group began to perform in bigger venues and expanded their live band, adding backing vocalists, keyboardists, a horn section, and, on occasion, a string section. While their albums would often appear in the Top Ten, Tube scored their first Number 1 album with 1992’s Cool, which was followed immediately by two more Number 1 albums: Roman No Natsu (1993) and In the Never-Ending Summer. In all, Tube has released over 30 studio albums, three mini albums, six compilations, four remix albums, and over 60 singles. While their output has slowed down since their early days, Tube remains a popular live act and continues to release albums and hit singles such as “Blue Wings” (2021) and “Natsu Tachinu” (2022).
