Static & Ben El

An Israeli dance-pop duo whose celebratory, anthemic songs have spotlighted locales across the continents, Static & Ben El had their big break in 2016 with their third single, "Silsulim." The next year's J Balvin-featuring "Tudo Bom" was an even bigger hit, with a global reach that resulted in collaborations with the likes of Pitbull, Nasrin Kadri, Flipp Dinero, Black Eyed Peas, and more. Their first full-length, Sheva Yerachim, arrived in 2021. Leeraz Russo, aka Static, grew up in Haifa, where he started playing the piano as a preschooler, later switching to guitar. As a young adult, collaborations with producer Omri Segal launched his professional music career, and he started going by Static, a nickname given to him by a childhood friend. He had his first hit in 2015 with "Ba La Lirkod," a duet with Gal Malka. The son of Israeli singer Shimi Tavori and model Aviva Azulai, Tel Aviv native Ben El Tavori sang publicly with his father for the first time in his mid-teens, eventually recording on his own. Static and Tavori first worked together when they were featured on the 2015 single "#DubiGal" by rapper Ron "Sky" Nesher. It was also their first collaboration with producer Yarden Peleg, aka Jordi. Teaming up as Static & Ben El, they enlisted Jordi to produce their first pop single, "Barbie," which received national radio airplay upon its release in late 2015. Early the next year, they followed up with "Kvish Hachof" before issuing "Silsulim" in June 2016. (It was later reworked in English as "Broke Ass Millionaire.") The music video garnered tens of millions of views, only to be outperformed by their third single, 2017's "Tudo Bom." A Brazil-themed song with a handful of lyrics in Portuguese including its title, it became a global smash, leading to a remix that paired the duo with chart-topping Colombian singer J Balvin. Their newfound success also resulted in a multi-year stint as judges on Eurovision Song Contest, a 2018 U.S. tour, and a long-term contract with Capitol Records for English-language albums. In the meantime, Static & Ben El continued to release a steady stream of hit stand-alone singles, racking up hundreds of millions cumulative video streams alone, a massive amount for a Hebrew-language act. In early 2020, Static & Ben El partnered with American rapper Pitbull for the track "Further Up (Na, Na, Na, Na, Na)," which became their 11th Israeli chart-topper. They continued their streak with "We" featuring Miri Mesika and "Shake Ya Boom Boom" with Black Eyed Peas. The following year, the duo issued their first full-length album, Sheva Yerachim, a seven-track set that featured guests Netta Barzilai, Ron Nesher, and more.
