Peter Gammons
Peter Gammons is a widely respected sports writer and media personality who has a strong association with Boston and the Boston Red Sox, a team he covered for years as a writer at The Boston Globe. Gammons, who was born April 9, 1945, began his journalism career after graduating from the University of North Carolina in 1969. Aside from The Globe, he has also written extensively for Sports Illustrated and authored the book Beyond the Sixth Game, a look at free agency in baseball. Since 1989 he has been a studio analyst at ESPN and appears nightly on Baseball Tonight. Gammons has also been a long-time advocate of indie rock, particularly in the Boston area, and has been known to strap on a Stratocaster and step on-stage to perform, often for benefits and worthy causes. An album, Never Slow Down, Never Grow Old, released to benefit the Boston-area Foundation to Be Named Later, appeared from Rounder Records in 2006.
