Motoharu Sano

Motoharu Sano is a Japanese singer-songwriter and radio DJ. He was born on March 13, 1956, in Taitō, Tokyo. As a singer and guitarist, Motoharu Sano specializes in the rock and roll genre, usually singing in Japanese but occasionally also in English. He made his debut in 1980, with the single “Angelina” followed by the album Back to the Street. In 1982, he released the much-lauded album Someday. His following album, 1983’s No Damage, reached Number 1 on the Japanese album charts. He continued recording albums throughout the 1980s, and his 1986 album Café Bohemia was certified double platinum in Japan. In 1992, his release Sweet16 was awarded the Japan Record Award for Best Album. This was followed by several more releases such as The Golden Ring (1994) and Stones and Eggs (1999). The year 2000 saw the release of The 20th Anniversary Edition, celebrating 20 years of his music career. In 2004, he started his own independent label named DaisyMusic. In 2015, Motoharu Sano took part in a two-day concert to commemorate Takashi Matsumo’s 45th anniversary as a lyricist, performing lead vocals on “Haikara Hakuchi” with members of the 1960s Japanese folk rock band Happy End. In 2022, Motoharu Sano released the live album 2022 Live at Sendai, Fukuoka, Osaka, performing songs from across his career with The Coyote Band.
