Human People
Combining the urgency of the '90s riot grrrl scene with the snottiness of pop-punk, Human People first burst onto the New York underground with their debut EP, 2016's Sleep Year.
The Brooklyn-based four-piece -- Hayley Livingston (vocals/guitar), Marisa Gershenhorn (vocals/guitar), Abby Austin (bass), and Vicki Guillem (drums) -- came together in 2014 after sharing a love of classic New York punk, '60s girl groups, and '90s alt-rock. Their debut EP, the lo-fi-sounding Sleep Year, appeared in 2016 and was followed a few months later by, Veronica. Becoming regulars on the D.I.Y. live scene, the group played select dates throughout 2017 while also recording what would become their debut album. Signing to Exploding in Sound, the label issued Butterflies Drink Turtle Tears in the fall of 2018.
