Enrico Sangiuliano

Italian producer Enrico Sangiuliano creates pounding, melodic, "peak time" techno which regularly tops dancefloor charts around the world. He established his driving, detailed form of trance-influenced techno with nearly a decade's worth of singles and EPs before he made his full-length debut with the scientific-minded Biomorph in 2018. He has since launched NINETOZERO, a limited series of ten releases, including 2023's Reflection (a collaboration with his wife, Charlotte de Witte) and Physical Change. Sangiuliano was born in Reggio Emilia and as a child was intrigued by creating sound from any object he could lay his hands on. Coming of age in the '90s when the illegal rave scene was in full swing, he started to DJ and produce his own tracks at home on his computer, primarily in the hardcore and psytrance genres. Soon he was attending raves; he was invited to play at one of them, and his DJ'ing career began. Starting out as an audio engineer, he continued to DJ and make music, gradually gravitating to techno, but did not issue any material until the late 2000s. His first release, in 2009, was the digital By Train EP on Abyss. He continued to put out recordings for the next few years on labels like Alchemy, Truesoul, and Alleanza, but it was not until 2015 that he really hit big, with his remix of DJ Boris' "Can You Hear Me." The track was a monster hit, topping sales charts on digital music platforms for months, and was nominated as Best Techno/Tech House Track at the IDMA Awards. The hype surrounding Sangiuliano grew, and his next releases, on labels like Gem, Tronic, and Unrilis, were also smash hits. Sangiuliano signed to Adam Beyer's Drumcode label, which released the Moon Rocks EP (2016) and "Astral Projection" single (2017). In 2018, the label put out Sangiuliano's debut full-length, Biomorph, a concept piece inspired by evolution that saw him branching out into ambient and breakbeat styles. He continued playing at clubs and festivals until the COVID-19 halted live events for much of 2020 and 2021, then resumed touring. That year, Sangiuliano and Charlotte de Witte released a remix of the Jam & Spoon mix of the self-titled single by the Age of Love, an early '90s trance staple. The pair were married in 2022, the same year Sangiuliano launched NINETOZERO, an imprint scheduled to include ten releases with descending catalog numbers. His own Silence and Sound of Space EPs appeared that year. Reflection, with de Witte, arrived in time for the couple's first wedding anniversary, and Sangiuliano's solo effort Physical Change followed.
