DJ Envy
New York's DJ Envy is an internationally renowned radio and television personality, as well as a longtime mixtape purveyor and producer. Mentored by fellow Queens native DJ Clue?, he released countless mixtapes and made his commercial debut with 2003's The Desert Storm Mixtape: DJ Envy - Blok Party, Vol. 1. He became a staple of New York hip-hop radio, then expanded his reach when his highly rated morning show, The Breakfast Club, became syndicated through satellite and terrestrial radio.
Born RaaShaun Casey, DJ Envy began to mix after meeting DJ Clue? in the early '90s. Frequently putting out mixtapes, he climbed up the ranks quickly, and by the early 2000s, Envy was peddling the latest exclusives and freestyles by big-name rappers like Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and the LOX. Envy's production work was showcased on albums such as Fabolous' Ghetto Fabolous and Foxy Brown's Broken Silence. His first commercial effort, The Desert Storm Mixtape: DJ Envy - Blok Party, Vol. 1, was released through DJ Clue?'s Desert Storm label in 2003; the album reached number 57 on the Billboard 200. The Co-Op, with New York rapper Red Café, appeared in 2007.
Envy mixed or co-hosted several shows on leading New York radio stations Hot 97 and Power 105. He began co-hosting the daily morning show The Breakfast Club with Angela Yee and Charlemagne tha God in 2010, and after being named the best radio program by The Source, it entered national syndication in 2013. Envy remained active as a producer, issuing several singles beginning in the mid-2010s, including collaborations with Rico Love (2015's "Still a Fan"), DJ Sliink and Fetty Wap (2017's "Text Ur Number"), and Yo Gotti and 2 Chainz (a 2018 remix of "Hardaway"). In August of 2020, Envy and his Breakfast Club co-hosts were inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. The following month, he released "Sittin in My Car," featuring Fabolous and A Boogie wit da Hoodie.
