Dick Stusso
A Bay Area singer/songwriter with a laconic and affable delivery and a penchant for pairing shuffling T.Rex-inspired riffage and juke joint balladry with ramshackle lo-fi country, Dick Stusso's laid-back, D.I.Y. glam-country stylings evoke names like Mac Demarco, Ultimate Painting, Nap Eyes, and JD McPherson. Born Nic Russo, the Oakland native self-released his debut LP, Nashville Dreams, in 2014. He eventually caught the attention of Seattle-based indie Hardly Art, which issued his sophomore effort, In Heaven, in 2018. Russo completed the songs for his third album before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Darker and more abstract than its predecessors, S.P. appeared in 2023, again on Hardly Art. The effort included a guest spot from his father, Marc Russo, a Grammy-winning saxophonist and longtime member of the Doobie Brothers.
