Clinton Hensley
Virginia-based musician Clinton Hensley founded the Royheads with former classmate Randall Hodge after the two bonded over a mutual love of experimental music. Their LP, About Anything with More to Come & 12 Other Songs, arrived on Stop//Gap Records at the end of 2009, showcasing the duo's unpredictable eclecticism influenced by psychedelic pop, modal jazz, and avant-garde classical. The following year, Hensley released his debut solo album, Here's to Ambivalence, which was considerably less frenetic than his work with the Royheads. The 2012 follow-up, Tripping Over Pillows, continued to hone Hensley's psych-pop style. 2015 saw the release of Hensley's most sprawling collection yet, the 80-minute Needle in Cotton, which incorporated elements of soul, blues, stoner rock, post-punk, and orchestral pop into his ever-expanding sound.
