Arkano

Spanish rapper Guillermo Rodríguez Godínez (aka Arkano) made a name for himself as a national battle rap champion, before transitioning into a recording artist with the release of his 2017 debut album, Bioluminiscencia. Born in Alicante, Spain in 1994, his love for hip-hop began after hearing his sister play Spanish rap around the house. He started to enter battle rap competitions by the age of 14, with his first notable victory taking place in 2008. He would continue to rise and gain attention within the scene, and by winning or placing highly in multiple competitions he became regarded as one of the best battle rappers Spain had to offer. Although mostly focused on live events, he did record and release an EP, Smooth Series, in 2014. Two years later he earned some global recognition by breaking the Guinness World Record for longest freestyle, which saw him improvising for over 24 hours with only three-second breaks for food and water -- the same year that he finished his degree in Computer Engineering. He retired from battle rapping in 2019 to focus on his solo recording career, which resulted in the release of a second album, 2022's MATCH.
