De façon plutôt surprenante, le denier album studio du groupe emmené par Ian Hunter est une réussite, malgré le départ a priori insurmontable de Mick Ralphs. Il obtiendra d’ailleurs un succès mérité aussi bien à domicile (n°11) qu’aux Etats-Unis (n°28). Il contient son quota de rock décoiffant, spécialité de Mott The Hoople depuis ses débuts, avec un excellent hommage au rock’n’roll fifties, bien dans l’air du temps, l’époque nageant effectivement en plein revival (« The Golden Age of Rock’n’roll ») et quelques titres saignants comme « Roll Away The Stone » ou « Crash Street Kids ».
A l’exception du délicieux « Born Late ‘58 » de Peter "Overend" Watts, Ian Hunter écrit ici toutes les chansons et s’en sort magnifiquement bien. Il quittera le groupe peu de temps après pour entamer une belle carrière solo avec Mick Ronson, son alter ego pendant plus de vingt ans, signant ainsi l’arrêt de mort de Mott The Hoople.
Cet album de grande classe, même s’il est un peu inférieur à Brain Capers, All The Young Dudes et Mott (trois chefs-d’œuvre consécutifs !), est donc le chant du cygne de ce groupe formidablement attachant.
