A l’aube des années 70, David Bowie n’est pas le seul à embarquer le rock et la pop dans les backrooms des outrances du glam. Avec Roxy Music, le genre prend même une direction inédite et surtout encore plus azimutée. Sans doute le fait du casting atypique de la formation britannique emmenée par Bryan Ferry, sorte de néodandy et de vrai faux crooner. D’entrée de jeu, Roxy réunit une belle ribambelle de freaks avides d’expérimentations en tous genres et d’avant-garde à gogo.
En 1972, le premier album éponyme de ce gang aussi classe que pute est totalement inétiquetable. Brian Eno appuie sur toutes les touches de ses synthés. Andy Mackay fait du saxo barjo. Et Phil Manzanera maltraite ses guitares comme un serial killer en plein atelier dépeçage ! Pour fêter les 45 ans de l’atterrissage sur Terre de cet ovni, la remastérisation de rigueur du disque original est couplée à une BBC Session assez savoureuse. Des habits de lumière parfaits pour redécouvrir cette grinçante séance de soudoiement du rock’n’roll.
