Paru à la grande époque où Hall & Oates culmine dans les charts en 1983, Rock'N'Soul Part 1 démarre par « Say It Isn't So », un titre inédit à la hauteur de la réputation du duo, qui sera repris sur les compilations ultérieures.
Bien entendu, ce n'est pas l'unique intérêt de cette première compilation qui combine les vieux hits des années 1970, « She's Gone » et « Rich Girl », moins connus du grand public européen, et les fusées taillées pour le sommet des hits : « Kiss on My List », « Private Eyes », « I Can't Go for That (No Can Do) », « Maneater »... dont la seule évocation donne tout de suite envie de se ruer dessus.
Hall & Oates ont créé un style de rock & soul unique, excitant et dansant, riche en mélodies immédiates. Les deux chanteurs blancs à l'âme noire ont réussi un beau crossover à l'envers que cette compilation reflète à merveille. Indémodable.
