Logique que Cuong Vu, grand trompettiste du Pat Metheny Group, décide un beau jour de convier, sur l’un de ses propres albums, un certain Pat Metheny. Epaulé par le bassiste Stomu Takeishi et le batteur Ted Poor, Vu signe ici cinq thèmes, en laisse un à son guitariste préféré et revisite Tune Blues d’Andrew D'Angelo. Le trio et son invité de marque se lancent dans une embardé de jazz habité, parfois un brin avant-gardiste, et dont les improvisations offrent toujours une belle densité. Cuong Vu a toujours eu les oreilles bien ouvertes, prêtant sa trompette à des gens aussi variés que Laurie Anderson, David Bowie, Dave Douglas, Myra Melford, Cibo Matto ou bien encore Mitchell Froom. Une richesse sonore que son jeu a intégrée et qui n’est parfois pas sans rappeler celle d’un Don Ellis. © MD/Qobuz
