Shadow Band
A play on the term for an atmospheric phenomenon surrounding solar eclipses, Shadow Band takes its 21st century neo-psychedelia as much from British as American influences, with a post-Zombies swirl of guitars, vintage keys, tambourines, pan flutes, and lingering smoke. The group came together around main songwriter and New Jersey native Mike Bruno, former leader of the Black Magic Family Band collective, which self-released a handful of albums in the early 2010s. Bruno relocated to Philadelphia, and as a regular lineup solidified, they began to go by Shadow Band. Members included multi-instrumentalist Sean Yenchick, bassist James Christy, drummer Matt Marchesano, regular Weyes Blood collaborator Jacob Brunner, and eventually Michigan natives Morgan Morel and Jules Nehring. After a few four-track cassette recordings, the ensemble attempted to make a full-length album in a proper studio, but abandoned the idea in a matter of days with the agreement of their label. The resulting home-recorded debut LP, Wilderness of Love, was released in February 2017 via Mexican Summer.
