Rett Madison

With a soulful performance style that's imbued with blues and an understated twang, Rett Madison infuses her passionate adult alternative songs with longing. Formative trauma and identity issues were among the inspirations for the West Virginia native's debut album, Pin-Up Daddy, which she recorded with members of Vulfpeck and Dawes. Her second LP, 2023's One for Jackie, was another personal one; it was dedicated to her deceased mother. An alumna of the Interlochen Center for the Arts, Madison began recording her debut album in Michigan in 2018 with support from Vulfpeck's Theo Katzman, who produced and played drums on the record. With songs inspired by growing up in West Virginia and that explored themes like identity, grief, and trauma, Pin-Up Daddy also featured performances by Dawes' Lee Pardini and Vulfpeck bassist Joe Dart. After sharing the title track in late 2019, she eventually self-released the album in September 2021. In the meantime, she delivered a one-off Christmas original, "I Don't Wanna Know Christmas Without You." It featured Madison on Rhodes piano, Katzman on drums, Nick Campbell (Nick Campbell Destroys, Pomplamoose) on bass, and Ryan Lerman (Ben Folds, Michael Bublé) on guitar. The now Los Angeles-based songwriter's next album served as a tribute to her mother, who died by suicide in 2019. Titled One for Jackie, it was produced by Lerman and released on Nashville-based Warner Records imprint War Buddha Records in October 2023. Madison quickly followed its arrival with opening slots on tour with Grace Potter.
