Merrick Winter

Based in the U.K., Merrick Winter is an American-born singer/songwriter whose literate songs strike a balance between acoustic folk and textured pop. After stints in New York and Los Angeles, he settled in London where he worked as a producer and began releasing music as a solo artist. Early singles like "Fallback" revealed Winter to be an understated soft pop tunesmith, while follow-up tracks like 2023's "Stalemate" and the chilling gun violence ballad "Try Me" emphasized his more organic folk tendencies. The latter two songs were included on his debut EP, Eve of Disaster, later that year. Winter grew up in the American Midwest in a spiritual commune that continued to practice '60s counterculture legacies like Transcendental Meditation. The environment provided the budding artist with a diverse array of early influences ranging from Indian classical and Irish folk music to Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake. After studying literature and film at King's College in London, Winter continued his education, studying music and production in New York and Los Angeles. He also studied jazz guitar, adding yet more colors to his growing palette. After heading back to London, he began to establish himself as a collaborator and producer, working with artists like Gabriella Eva, Victoria Canal, and Grace Corsi. He began releasing singles of his own in 2020, beginning with the indie pop-oriented "Fallback" and "Any Other Way," followed by the three-way collaboration "Open Soon" with Josh Jacobson and Dillan Witherow. By 2023, Winter's catalog had expanded with textured, acoustic-driven songs like "Mr. Resistor," "Veneer," and "Try Me," the latter inspired by a school shooting in his hometown. Winter's first EP, Eve of Disaster, followed in December of that year.
