Kita Alexander

Kita Alexander is an Australian singer/songwriter whose songs blend a warm acoustic framework with lush synth pop and a beachy surfer aesthetic. She debuted in the latter half of the 2010s, notching chart hits with "Like You Want To," "Hotel," and "Between You & I," all of which were certified gold in Australia. After her third EP, 2022's The One, Alexander released first debut full-length, Young in Love, in early 2024. The Brisbane-born, Port Macquarie-raised singer-songwriter quit school in her mid-teens to pursue a music career. She used Google to find a manager, who went on to connect her with producers for Lana Del Rey and fellow Aussies Sia and Empire of the Sun. Her influences (Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, Tom Petty, Patti Smith) informed much of her sonic aesthetic, while polished production sheen enhanced her pop sensibilities. Buzz was generated with her first single "My Own Way" and she signed with Atlantic Records in 2015. Alexander's sunwashed debut EP, Like You Want To, was released in late 2015 and its eponymous single cracked the ARIA Top 100. Her 2017 follow-up EP, Hotel, fared even better and yielded a minor hit in its lush and sultry title track. For the next few years, Alexander focused exclusively on singles, sampling Tears for Fears' classic song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" on 2019's "Between You & I," her first release on Warner Bros. Throughout 2020, she continued to released singles including "I Miss You, I'm Sorry" and "Against the Water." Alexander then returned to the EP format and released The One in 2022. The seven-song set featured two notable singles in the low-key "Run" and the more rousing "Ocean Blue." A succession of 2023 singles, including the Morgan Evans duet "Date Night" and "Atmosphere" featuring Fisher, built the foundation for Alexander's full-length debut. The album, Young in Love, was released in March 2024 and peaked at number 61 on the ARIA albums chart.
