Jocelyne Béroard
As lead singer for the 15-piece Martinique-based band Kassav' since 1984, Jocelyn Beroard helped to lay the foundations of zouk, a popular dance blend of Antillean, Zairean, and European influences. Together with the group, Beroard joined with Youssou N'Dour, Peter Gabriel, and Tracy Chapman in 1998 for a world tour in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Their performance in Paris on December 12, 1998, was recorded and included on a multi-artist video and DVD, Paris Concert for Amnesty International: The Struggle Continues, released in 1999.
