Etta Marcus

Brixton-born and bred singer, songwriter, and musician Etta Marcus combines dusky Americana with warm, sophisticated indie rock, as heard on her 2024 debut mini-album, The Death of Summer & Other Promises. Raised in a musical family, the South Londoner originally studied jazz before switching gears and honing her voice and songwriting skills. When the pandemic lockdown hit, Marcus started posting her songs online. Her emotionally resonant works, which evoke names like Sharon Van Etten, Weyes Blood, Lana Del Rey, and Phoebe Bridgers, caught the attention of label services company Platoon, and in 2021, she released the assured "Salt Lake City" and the lush "Hide & Seek." Both cuts garnered millions of streams and appeared on her independently released debut EP, View from the Bridge, the following year. Heart Shaped Bruise arrived in 2023 and included the springy earworm "The Crown," another streaming hit for the young songwriter. Marcus inked a deal with Polydor before the arrival of 2024's The Death of Summer & Other Promises and its sweeping and emotional lead single, "Theater."
