Une scène résumant parfaitement l’univers des compères Danny Elfman/Tim Burton : un groupe d’enfants et de parents se retrouvent plantés devant un manège d’automates interprétant une petite chansonnette joyeuse à la gloire de Willy Wonka quand soudain, des feux d’artifices mal réglés mettent le feu à l’édifice et font fondre les marionnettes avant que Johnny Depp n’apparaisse à l’écran.
Comptine enfantine se terminant en macabre massacre : tout le cinéma de Burton est contenu dans cette unique petite scénette. Elfman (qui prête sa voix aux Oompa-Loompas lors des scènes chantées) a puisé son inspiration aussi bien dans le registre bollywoodien (pour « Augustus Gloop ») que dans la britpop des années 1990 (« Mike Teavee ») ou la musique funk (« Violet Beauregarde ») pour aboutir à cette petite merveille d’humour noir.
