Yale Strom's Broken Consort
Lancashire-based artist Richard Skelton creates ambient music under a variety of pseudonyms (Carousell, Heidika, Harlassen, Clouwbeck, and A Broken Consort, as well as his birth name). All of these projects are similar in nature, with heavily layered textures and drones created by organic instrumentation. In the late 2000s, Skelton put out a series of releases as A Broken Consort on his own Sustain-Release Private Press, including The Shape of Leaves, Box of Birch, Crow Autumn, and Crow Autumn, Pt. 2. Due to budget constraints, these were originally available only in a limited run on CD-Rs, but in 2010, Skelton teamed up with New York’s Tompkins Square Records to re-release Box of Birch.
