Struggle Jennings
The country rapper known as Struggle Jennings was born William Harness on May 31, 1980 in Nashville, Tennessee. The successor to a long lineage of country royalty, he is the step-grandson of singer-songwriter Waylon Jennings and the nephew of country artist Shooter Jennings, from whom he adopted his stage name. Struggle Jennings made his first appearance on Yelawolf’s Wyte Dawg mixtape and issued his studio debut I Am Struggle in 2013 while being incarcerated on drug-related charges. After being released from prison in 2016, he resumed his career with the EP Return of the Outlaw, which entered Billboard’s Heatseekers chart at Number 18. From 2017 to 2018, Struggle Jennings paid homage to both his late step-grandfather and iconic singer-songwriter Willie Nelson on the Waylon & Willie album series, a joint effort with longtime friend and rapper JellyRoll. The following years brought collaborative EPs with both his mother Jeni Eddy Jennings (2018’s Spiritual Warfare) and his daughter Brianna Harness (2019’s Sunny Days) as well as the full-lengths The Widow’s Son (2019) and Legend (2020), all released via his own Angels & Outlaws imprint. In 2021, he returned with Troubadour of Troubled Souls, his third solo album. “God We Need You Now,” one of the singles from the LP featuring Caitlynne Curtis, peaked at Number 41 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
