Sebastien Grainger
Before launching a solo career in 2008, Toronto native Sebastien Grainger found an audience as the drum-playing vocalist of Death from Above 1979. The group's sweaty mix of punk, hip-hop, and dance was chronicled on two albums (one of them a remix record) before Grainger split with bandmate Jesse F. Keeler in 2006. Keeler went on to form MSTRKRFT, while Grainger tackled several new projects, the first of which saw him issuing dance singles under the alias "The Rhythm Method." He then signed with Saddle Creek Records as a solo artist. Sebastien Grainger & the Mountains, an eclectic album recorded mostly by Grainger himself, marked his solo debut in October 2008. For live shows on the tour that followed, he added bassist Nick Sewell, drummer Leon Taheny, and guitarist Andrew Scott. In 2010, Grainger formed an electronic band, Bad †i†s, with ex-Tangiers member Josh Reichmann. They released one single, "Garbage Night," in 2010, before changing their name to Deserts. He and Keeler re-formed Death from Above 1979 in early 2011, and began touring and writing new songs. They debuted them on a quick tour around Canada in the fall of 2012, then began making plans for a new album. While all this was swirling around, Grainger relaunched his solo career with an album for Last Gang Records. Yours to Discover was released in November of 2013.
